Definition editor: elicitation of radiocarbon data
This page elicits from you information about any determinations you have
created.
Accessing this page
This page can be accessed by selecting "Modify" from the determination
information list page. The page is also shown when the software needs
information about determinations you have created. The number of
determinations you see per page is the number specified in the configuration
page.
Description
For each determination a form is shown. This form includes the following
fields.
-
Parameter label - A label for the determination parameter that corresponds
to this determination. If this determination is part of a pooled
mean of determinations, you should just set a dummy name for now.
-
Laboratory number - The laboratory number for the determination
allocated by the radiocarbon dating laboratory.
-
Mean - The mean radiocarbon year returned from the radiocarbon dating
laboratory.
-
Error - The error returned from the radiocarbon dating laboratory.
-
Outlier probability - The prior probability that the determination
is an outlier. A value of 0 represents certainty that the determination
is not an outlier. A value of 100 represents the certainty that the
determination is an outlier. If you have no a priori reason to suspect
that this determination is an outlier you should set this value to zero.
If, however, you believe that this determination might not date to the
event with which it has been associated (perhaps because of `old wood'
or contamination problems) you can indicate it with an appropriate value
between 0 and 100 here. At the end of the calibration, BCal will
make available (through the results presentation tool) the posterior probability
that the determination is an outlier. The posterior probability is
an update of your prior probability and is based on all the available chronological
information provided in your project definition.
-
Delta-R reservoir correction (mean) - The mean value for delta-R
reservoir correction. This should be provided if the sample metabolised
in a marine reservoir.
-
Delta-R reservoir correction (error) - The error for delta-R reservoir
correction. This should be provided if the sample metabolised in
a marine reservoir.
